New publication in the Journal of Family Violence!
The Gender, Violence and Policy Lab is excited to announce a new publication in the Journal of Family Violence that examines the real-world implementation of Domestic Violence Housing First (DVHF) programs. Our study reveals that although DVHF is a powerful tool for reducing survivors' exposure to violence and improving stability, implementation requires significant shifts in organizational culture, including rethinking budgeting practices, changing how staff perceive clients, adapting training and staffing models, and navigating local community limitations. These findings highlight that funders and policymakers need to provide robust, ongoing support to organizations implementing Housing First programs, as the transition can be more complex than anticipated. This work contributes valuable insights for improving how we support domestic violence survivors in achieving safe, stable housing.
